Mobitor — User Guide

This guide explains what the app shows, which permissions it needs, and how to get the most out of each widget. It's written for everyday users, not developers.

What the app does

Mobitor gives you a clear, private view of today's phone use:

Everything is computed on your device. The app does not send data anywhere.

First‑time setup (recommended)

  1. Open the app and follow the short onboarding. If you skipped it, you can always set things later in Settings.
  2. Grant Usage access (required for most widgets):
    • Open: Settings → Security & privacy → More security & privacy (or "Special app access") → Usage access
    • Tap "Mobitor" → Allow usage access
  3. Allow Notification access (for the notifications widget and richer signals):
    • Settings → Notifications → Notification access (or "Special app access" → Notification access)
    • Enable "Mobitor"
  4. On Android 13+ you may be asked to allow notifications for the app itself; choose Allow so the app can show optional reminders.
  5. Optional permissions, requested only when you enable related features:
    • Display over other apps: needed only if you enable Nudges (small on‑screen reminders when you near your goal)
    • Bluetooth (connect): needed only if you enable the Headset Usage widget
    • Call log (READ_CALL_LOG): used only in the dev variant for the Calls widget; the Play version does not request this

Tip: If a widget looks empty, scroll to Settings inside the app and ensure it's toggled on, then check its required permission above.

The Home screen

The app shows a list of widgets. You can reorder or toggle visibility in Settings:

Key widgets at a glance

Chrono Ring — how to read it

The ring encodes the full day (00:00–24:00) clockwise.

Troubleshooting (Chrono Ring):

Notifications widget

Shows totals and top 3 apps for any day.

Required permission: Notification access. If numbers freeze for Today, try this quick repair:

  1. Open system "Notification access"
  2. Turn OFF Mobitor, wait ~2 seconds
  3. Turn it ON again
  4. Return to the app; the counter should resume within a few seconds

Sleep (settings)

Sleep is inferred from foreground activity gaps within a night window (typically 21:00 → 10:00). You can adjust two things in Settings:

Goals, Progress, and Nudges

Headset Usage (optional)

If you enable the Headset Usage widget, the app starts a tiny foreground service (with a small, quiet notification) to track connected headset time.

FAQ

Uninstalling

Just uninstall like any other app. If you used the Headset Usage widget, its small notification will disappear automatically when the app is removed.
